About Me

Some fun facts and a brief history about me

Hi, I’m Allison

I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember.

One of my earliest memories is asking mum what I could write about. I was five.

Writing has been in my blood all my life. Over time I’ve dabbled in fiction and non-fiction. I have even written a book and received positive feedback from an agent but I’ve yet to publish it.

By my teens, I realised I wanted to be a full-time writer. From then on, I never wanted to do anything else, although I remember telling my 5th-year career adviser this and after she stopped laughing she asked me what I wanted to do “as a proper job”.

I was first published in 1990 – initially letters to the editor, followed by articles and short stories. This led to regular work, including a monthly column in a well-known UK writing magazine. I wrote part-time for many years and it might have stayed that way if the internet hadn’t appeared.

Fast forward a few years, and I realised I was earning more writing part-time than I was from my full-time day job. I quit and since then I’ve never looked back.

That’s me in the pic, enjoying a snuggle with our Bichon Frise, Freya Moray. I’m trying to train her to be my secretary/PA, but she doesn’t seem too interested… other than sitting next to me and sleeping while I work. That’s good enough for me!

“And into the forest I go,

to lose my mind and find my soul.”
